French period mirror with original glass and painted frame
A classic French antique mirror with its original mercury glass plate. Ideally suited over consoles, commodes or as an overmantel. The muted putty coloured frame lends itself to many colour and texture combinations.
French mirrors of all designs and scales were popular during the 18th and 19th centuries. Generally used in grand homes and chateaux, they were typically made using a combination of wood, plaster, and gesso, which more often than not was then painted and adorned with gold leaf or other decorative elements.
