18th Century serpentine commode in walnut with original hardware
Outstanding serpentine commode from the 18th century sourced from the south of France. The commode features four drawers, all with original handles. The blue paint has a rich patina with distressed areas revealing the walnut timber.
These commodes would typically have several drawers, often with curved facades that mirror the overall shape of the piece. The drawers would be adorned with ornate brass handles and escutcheons. The top of the commode would also sometimes be decorated with inlaid wood or a marble top for added elegance.
